Pale Harbor is a detective game about a drowned fishing town and the four days before it is condemned. Every background is painted in gouache on paper, scanned, and animated by hand. There are 340 of them. You play an insurance investigator, which is a deliberately unglamorous job, sent to determine whether a flood was an accident. You interview eleven people. They lie to you, and the game never tells you when. There is no dialogue wheel with a clearly correct option, no morality meter, and no point at which the game confirms you were right. You file a report at the end and live with it. We are four people: two artists, a writer and me on code. We have been building this for three years in evenings and weekends. The first act is finished and playable — there is a free demo on our page, and we would much rather you play it than take our word for anything in this pitch. 65,000 EUR pays four salaries for nine months to finish acts two and three, plus the composer, the voice cast, and localisation into five languages. Backing tiers: 25 EUR for the game on release. 60 EUR adds the 120-page art book as a PDF. 120 EUR makes it a printed art book. 350 EUR gets one of the original gouache paintings used in the game, chosen by you, signed.

47%. The most common piece of feedback on the demo is that the notebook interface is confusing, and we agree. It is being rebuilt. If that means a slightly later release, it means a slightly later release.

The demo has been played 9,400 times in twelve days and the average session is 41 minutes, which for a demo we expected people to bounce off in ten is the single most encouraging number of this campaign.
